The state of Illinois is at the forefront of all kinds of substance addictions in the country. Whether you judge it by sheer numbers or by the extent of the addictions, Illinois is head over shoulders with its various addictions.

Figures obtained from surveys conducted by the Treatment Episode Data Set in 2004 showed that there were in all 81,722 people in Illinois who checked themselves into various drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in the state. If you consider the total population of Illinois at that time, which was 12,713,548, then you will realize that approximately for every 155 people, 1 person needed addiction treatment in Illinois. This trend continues even today. This is certainly a proportion that must set the alarm bells ringing.A very large number of these people checked into drug rehab programs in Illinois with problems of marijuana addiction. This number was 20,757, which was 25.4% of the total number of people who checked into drug rehabs. 16,507 people, 20.2% of the total, enrolled for drug rehab in Illinois because of their cocaine addictions and 13,239 people, 16.2% of the total, enrolled for their heroin addiction. A vast chunk of the people, 17.9% of them which equates to 14,613 people, looked up for alcohol addiction treatment in Illinois.

These figures are definitely enough to send shudders down the spine of anyone who happens to read them carefully. With such a large number of addicted people, it becomes very difficult to fight the problem on a broader scale. However, the great number of rehab centers in Illinois is working relentlessly to drive this vicious problem away from their fine state.
