Drug Abuse and Substance Abuse

Having a drug abuse problem or a substance abuse problem is not something to take lightly.  It is not something that will go away if you ignore it.  Ignoring it can only make it worse.

Ignoring the problem in a friend of family member will not help that friend of family member either.  When your parents said to ignore your little brother and he will go away, it didn’t happen.  Drug abuse and substance abuse are far more annoying then a little brother can be.  The point is that nothing goes away by ignoring it. So what can you do then?  If you have a family member with an addiction, talk to them about it.  Intervention may be the first step in getting them the help he or she needs.  An intervention should be done with love and understanding.  Know that it is a disease.  It is not a weakness.  You wouldn’t blame your brother if he got cancer.  The same should be said for drug and substance addiction.  If you are the one with the problem, stop running from it.  Stop denying it and admit it to your family and your friends.  They love you and they want to help you.  A treatment center can help you stop running from your addiction.  It can help you come to terms with your addiction and succeed in beating it.  It can help you through the detox program and through the rehabilitation process.  You can never be cured, but you an recover.
